Trump’s Capitol Hill Doubters Unmoved After Face-To-Face Meetings

(Politico) -- Dozens of House and Senate Republicans touted party unity after Donald Trump’s pair of appearances with them on Capitol Hill Thursday. But as details about the meetings leaked out, it became clear that the gatherings did little but paper over deep internal GOP divisions that show no signs of abating.

House members already wary of Trump were even more skeptical after seeing him in person, their concerns about his standing among Latinos and praise for Saddam Hussein undiminished. It was even worse with senators, as Trump seemed more intent at times on settling scores than mending fences, calling out his critics in front of the bulk of the Senate GOP Conference.

For three weeks, Sanders has been steadily walking closer to throwing his full support behind Clinton, but has been withholding a formal endorsement until the platform is written. He repeated his pledge to help defeat Donald Trump again Thursday in an interview with

GOP Faces Tough Odds To Revoke Clinton’s Clearance

(Politico) -- The GOP’s newly launched quest to deny Hillary Clinton access to traditional presidential campaign security briefings is unlikely to succeed, according to former intelligence officials and classification policy experts.

On Thursday, Republican lawmakers introduced a bill and fired off several letters to the Obama administration in an attempt to revoke the clearances of Clinton and several of her top aides, and bar them from the classified security briefings that major party presidential nominees have received for decades.

Commission On Presidential Debates Announces Debate Formats

(CPD) -- The nonpartisan, nonprofit Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) today announced the formats for the three presidential and one vice presidential general election debates it will sponsor this fall. The formats for the 90-minute debates are designed to facilitate in-depth discussion of the leading issues facing the nation.

All debates will be moderated by a single individual and will run from 9:00-10:30 p.m. Eastern Time without commercial breaks. As always, the moderators alone will select the questions to be asked, which are not known to the CPD or to the candidates. The moderators will have the ability both to extend the segments and to ensure that the candidates have equal speaking time. While the focus will properly be on the candidates, the moderator will regulate the conversation so that thoughtful and substantive exchanges occur.
