54 Days Till Election Day: New polls from Ohio, Maine, Kansas, Texas,Virginia, California

STATE POLLING

New polls today from Ohio (Trump +5), Maine CD1 (Clinton +18), Maine CD2 (Trump +10), Kansas (Trump +12), Texas (Trump +6), Virginia (Clinton +6), and California (Clinton +25).

With less than eight weeks to go until Election Day, more and more voters are in the process of making up their minds (or at least admitting such to pollsters). And from our tracking, it appears a decent percentage of those formerly undecideds have been going for Trump. The question being, will it be enough to shift the core states he needs to claim a victory come November?

With the latest round of polling, there are three changes to our electoral map: Maine CD2 has moved from "leaning" to "solid" Republican (Maine CD1 remains solid Democrat, perfectly showcasing the current urban/rural split between the two parties), Ohio has switched from leaning Democrat to leaning Republican (though still a virtual toss-up), and Virginia has moved from "leaning" to "solid" Democrat.

The troublesome news from all of this, for Trump, is that while he is starting to find his political legs amongst Ohio voters -- which he absolutely has to win -- he continues to lose ground in the other "must-have" states, watching as Virginia continues to slip away from him. And there other signs of worry: Texas continues to creep ever closer to lean status, which is all but unthinkable for one of the (formerly) reddest states in the union.

As it stands now, Clinton has a 249 to 156 "safe" electoral lead over Trump with a projected overall lead of 293 to 245. This, by the way, is the first time since we started tracking this election that Clinton has dropped below 300 in our overall projection.

Here are the current averages from the battleground states:

Leaning Republican

South Carolina: Trump up by 5.3%
Georgia: Trump up by 3.1%
Arizona: Trump up by 2.3%
Iowa: Trump up by 2%
Ohio: Trump up by 0.7%
Florida: Trump up by 0.2%

Leaning Democrat

North Carolina: Clinton up by 2%
Wisconsin: Clinton up by 2.2%
Nevada: Clinton up by 2.7%
Colorado: Clinton up by 2.8%
New Hampshire: Clinton up by 5%

Here are the State Polling Averages for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
